Chino Valley Unified SD and West End SELPA retaliation since we signed resolution agreement on Oct 6, 2010:

-         October 13.  Letter from attorney Jeff Morris of Stutz Artiano Shinoff and Holtz accusing me of sexually harassing female district employees at public Board meetings.  Wonderful letter, which I read to the November Board meeting.  It was evidently sent in retaliation for my forcing the district through a Public Records Act request to produce the resume of Special Ed Director Heather Williams, backed up by an attorney’s letter when they stonewalled.  The resume shows no special education qualifications and that her doctorate is in “Educational Leadership.”  Ask, and I’ll send the letter and resume.

-         Nov 18. Frivolous complaint of neglect to county Child Protective Services in response to request to SELPA Administrator Joann Reilly on Nov 17 to hurry up the emergency IEP that we needed for Stephen.

-         Nov 20.  False accusation of truancy to further frighten Stephen, against the wishes of the attendance officer and at the insistence of Special Ed Director Heather Williams.  Correspondence might help you if you need to push back against this kind of retaliation yourself.

-         Dec 2 and Feb 26. Unlawfully conducted IEP meetings.  Their “offer” of “free appropriate public education” is no more than three hours of tutoring a week where he feels safe to go plus an hour a week where they know he can’t go – four hours a week in all, no more.  Follow-up letters available concerning these are also available for your own use, in case your district is treating you the same way.

This authorizes anyone reading this, especially in the legislature, to access any records needed to examine CDE’s “investigation” of complaints S-0487-07/08, S-0521-07/08, and S-0663-07/08, or the complete record of Office of Administrative Hearings case 2009020321.  I will sign any required releases.

The Asperger Kid Flies over the Cuckoo’s Nest

We refused to have him drugged at their insistence, so on March 27th, 2007, Chino Valley Unified School District (CVUSD) in Southern California pretended that my Asperger son was suicidal and had the police drag him out of our home to a mental hospital for three days, so traumatized that he has been unable to get any schooling since.  They didn’t much like coughing up the paperwork that proved they knew he wasn’t suicidal.  He will never be able now to graduate from high school.

We’ve had IEP meetings, we’ve written to the board members and publicly addressed them, we’ve had a round of Due Process, and they seem determined to have more.  As I pointed out in the March 4 Board meeting in which they voted for teacher layoffs, they’ve already spent about a year’s pay for a teacher on lawyers and other staff time to torment my kid and rob him of anything he’s entitled to, and the meter is still running.  And it turns out that Board member Michael Calta was right to tell me that there are lots of others like us.

The stupid things I’ve done and the cruel and stupid things they’ve done these two years make it a book worth writing, which should be useful to many.  I did not know that Special Education advocacy would become a way of life!
